HR Generalist - Brilliant Earth, Remote
Position Overview:
Brilliant Earth is seeking an experienced HR Generalist to support our HR Operations function across our 850+ employee organization. This role serves as a strategic partner across HR disciplines, providing comprehensive support in onboarding, training, benefits administration, payroll, HR systems management, and compliance. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in multi-state employment law, experience managing and optimizing HR systems, and a proven track record of driving process improvements.
As an HR Generalist, you will serve as a trusted advisor to employees and managers, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while delivering an exceptional employee experience. You will play a critical role in supporting our HR Operations team as we continue to scale our systems and processes. This position requires someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment, can manage multiple priorities, and brings both strategic thinking and hands-on execution.
Key Responsibilities:
HR Operations & Compliance
- Serve as subject matter expert on federal, state, and local employment laws, including wage and hour laws, leave management (FMLA, CFRA, paid sick leave), and accommodation requests.
- Partner with leadership and HRBPs to ensure compliance with multi-state employment requirements, conducting regular audits and implementing corrective actions as needed
- Maintain current knowledge of changing employment legislation and proactively update policies, procedures, and practices to ensure organizational compliance
- Manage leave of absence and accommodation process administration, including case management, employee communications, manager guidance, eligibility determination, compliance, vendor partnerships, and tracking.
- Support workers' compensation administration, including claims management, return-to-work coordination, and partnership with our vendor (Chubb)
- Ensure accurate maintenance of employee records and documentation in compliance with federal, state, and local recordkeeping requirements
- Lead company-wide compliance audits including I-9 verification, wage and hour reviews, and policy adherence assessments
HRIS & Systems Management
- Administer and optimize our HRIS (Oracle HCM/Redwood), serving as a power user and system administrator to ensure data integrity and system efficiency
- Lead process improvement initiatives to streamline HR operations, identifying inefficiencies and implementing scalable solutions as we continue our Oracle Redwood deployment
- Generate and analyze reports and people metrics to support data-driven decision making and identify trends in workforce data
- Maintain accurate employee data across all systems, processing lifecycle changes including promotions, transfers, compensation adjustments, and leave administration
Benefits & Payroll Support
- Assist in the administration of day-to-day benefits operations including new hire enrollments, qualifying life events, COBRA administration, and employee inquiries
- Assist with payroll administration including timecard review, PTO tracking, and resolution of payroll discrepancies
- Serve as liaison between employees and benefits/payroll vendors, escalating complex issues and ensuring timely resolution
Employee Relations & Engagement
- Serve as a trusted resource for employees and managers on HR policies, procedures, benefits, leave administration, and general HR inquiries
- Analyze trends in employee engagement, turnover, and separation data to identify opportunities for improving retention and employee experience
- Support company culture initiatives and employee lifecycle moments, including onboarding and offboarding.
- Contribute to employee engagement strategies and wellness programs to foster a positive workplace environment
- Assist with planning and execution of company-wide events and volunteer initiatives for showroom and headquarters teams
Qualifications:
Required:
- Bachelor's degree, preferred
- 4+ years of progressive HR generalist or HR operations experience, preferably in a multi-state, high-growth environment
- Strong working knowledge of federal and multi-state employment law with demonstrated experience in CA, CO, and/or NY compliance (additional states a plus)
- Proven experience administering and optimizing HRIS platforms; Oracle HCM, Workday, or similar enterprise systems strongly preferred
- Hands-on experience with benefits administration, payroll processing support, and leave management
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines
- Exceptional attention to detail, organizational skills, and follow-through
- Strong analytical skills with ability to interpret data, identify trends, and make recommendations
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with ability to build relationships at all levels of the organization
- High degree of professionalism, discretion, and ability to handle confidential information with integrity
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
- Process improvement mindset with ability to identify inefficiencies and implement scalable solutions
- Commitment to respect and inclusion in the workplace
Preferred:
- Experience with Oracle HCM, Atlassian suite (Confluence, Jira, or similar project management platforms)
- HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP)
- Experience in retail or multi-location organizations with both corporate and field operations
- Background in change management and system implementations/migrations
